Start Off Your TV Career With a Great Resume

Even if you start on the bottommost rung, there will be plenty of opportunities for advancement in TV. |
Use your resume to show off what you can do. For a TV job, remember that while you might have the necessary education, most employers are looking for someone with experience. Therefore, focus on the skills and training you’ve obtained from your past TV experiences. Show them you know the industry and have what it takes to handle the job requirements.
If you are an entry-level applicant, you probably don’t have a lot experience to include yet. If this is the case, there are still ways to tailor your resume so that it emphasizes the skills you possess. First of all, you will want to showcase your education to show what educational training you’ve had, and also to show you are willing to learn what it takes to get into the industry. You may also want to highlight any coursework or internships you’ve participated in that are related to TV and the skills associated with it. Any work you’ve done related to the TV industry is going to be a way for you to show your potential employer that you’d be a valuable asset to their company.
You may have a lot of qualifications and skills to list – perhaps too many to fit onto a one-page resume. In this case, it would be effective for you to include only those skills that are most relevant to the position you are applying for. In order to know which skills to include and which skills to leave out, research the company ahead of time to find out what kind of work they produce and what their goals are. This will give you a good idea of the kind of skill sets your potential employer is looking for.
Keeping it to one page will ensure that your resume contains only relevant information and will help you to highlight the information you really want to stand out. It will also help the employer to easily find what he is looking for on the page. The only circumstance in which it may go on to another page is if you have extensive work experience in the field.
There are plenty of opportunities for advancement in this industry, so don’t be discouraged if you can’t get a higher paying job at first. If it’s a company you’re interested in working for, go ahead and accept the job offer you get; then you can really show them what you’re capable of doing. Experience will always give you a better chance at a promotion.
The TV industry can be an exciting one to get into, but there is an order in which things must be done. Therefore, it’s great to set your sights high but you must also remember that everyone needs to start somewhere, even if it’s at the bottom rungs of the ladder. If you’re confident in your abilities, you should be able to show an employer in no time that you deserve a higher position. Keep building up your experience in this way, and someday you will be rewarded with the job of your dreams. It all starts with a great resume.
