Resume for a Pharmaceutical Position
PDF Version
In order to complete the application process for a pharmaceutical position, you must be able to market yourself well. The best way to do this is to know ahead of time which skills and qualifications your potential employer is looking for. This way, you can highlight the applicable skills you possess and tailor your other strengths to match the position. This will be important to do because otherwise, there won't be very much that is unique about your resume compared to everyone else's. In order to get noticed, your potential employer must see that effort was put into customizing the resume specifically for them.

Resume for a Pharmaceutical Position
When applying for a pharmaceutical position, highlight skills that are relevant to the position and the specific employer.
To advertise and market oneself is the main purpose of having a professional and well-written resume. Therefore, the more professional your resume looks, the higher the chances of getting noticed and eventually getting hired. Information should be clearly and logically presented on your resume while making your previous pharmaceutical experiences relevant to the position available. For you to have an effective pharmacist's resume, the information it contains should be professionally written and organized as well as appropriate to the available position.

An effective pharmacist's resume should be organized systematically. It should have subheadings that are marked clearly with easily readable font. These subsections may include the applicant's contact information, educational qualification summary, professional experience, involvement in relevant community and school activities, and personal skill sets.

Contact Information

The first thing on your resume should be your full name, typed in a font and format that makes it stand out above everything else on the page. Next, include your permanent address and a phone number at which you can be easily reached. You want to make sure that if the employer decides to call you for an interview, he will be able to reach you easily. Otherwise, he may change his mind about giving you a chance. Include a professional email address as well.

Educational Qualification

All potential employers like to know what level of education you've completed, so be sure to include it clearly. Include the name of the college or institution you attended, the degree earned, and year of graduation. Mention any other coursework you may have that is related to pharmaceutical work.

Professional Experience

Your professional experience in the field of pharmacy will be important to include in your resume, not only because your potential employer needs to know what you're capable of, but because a lot of positions require a prerequisite few years of experience. For this reason most pharmacists work as interns for a couple of years to get the necessary professional experience before they are officially employed. State the position held, dates worked, employer's name and location, and special accomplishments and results achieved through your efforts.

For example:

Pharmacy Intern                                                                 December 2000 – 2001
St John Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • Evaluated and interpreted drug therapy
  • Prepared
  • Dispensed and ensured proper control of narcotics
  • Interacted with nurses, physicians, and clinical pharmacists regarding drug therapy
On the surface, there may not be anything unique about a pharmaceutical resume in relation to resumes written for other industries. This is why it is important to know which specific skills and accomplishments to include and highlight in your resume. By emphasizing only those things that you know your potential employer is looking for, you will be able to provide an impressive resume that will catch their eye.
